8 Halloween Party Games to Thrill Your Guests

By Monica Sharp 10.1.19

Halloween features the most kid-friendly frivolity of the calendar year: costumes, candy, and trick-or-treating. Looking to make your own fun and throw the best freaky fest on the block? These eight Halloween party games are guaranteed to thrill your guests.

Candy Corn Guessing Game

Simple and fun. Fill a large glass jar with candy corn and ask guests to guess how many pieces are in the jar. (Make sure to count the candy corn first!) Think of a spooky prize, and at the end, turn your guessing jar into party-favor bags of candy corn to give guests as they leave.

Egg and Spoon Race

A good egg and spoon race never gets old. Adapt it for Halloween by decorating hard-boiled eggs as pumpkins, witches, and ghosts. As always, the winner is the first to finish the race without dropping the egg.

Toilet Paper Mummy

Divide guests into groups of two or three and furnish each team with white toilet paper. Watch as a designated mummy is wrapped and transformed. Award for the most convincing mummy.

Pumpkin Patch Stomp

Blow up a generous number of orange balloons and let the stomping begin. Option 1: Insert slips of paper indicating a prize in each balloon. Option 2: A prize goes to the person who pops the most balloons. Option 3: Enjoy chaos. Add spooky tunes for more fun!

Pin the Tail

Halloween calls for more seasonal guesswork than your typical donkey. Draw a black cat, then blindfold partygoers and watch them as they attempt to pin the tail on. Alternatively, pin the bow tie on the skeleton or pin the face on the jack-o-lantern!

Lollipop Ghosts

Boo! Even the smallest little monsters can make a lollipop ghost out of a Tootsie pop, a square of white cloth, and a black or orange pipe cleaner to twist around the ghost’s neck. Have an adult at the ready with a glue gun to affix some googly eyes.

Marshmallow Toss

Group some festive, decorative metal buckets on the floor. Designate the tossing line and provide marshmallows for pitching into the buckets. Don’t forget to label the bottom of the buckets with points or prizes.

Donut-Eating Race

This one gets messy, so best take it outside. Hang festive doughnuts on strings from a tree, and gently tie the hands of participants behind their backs as they rise to the challenge of devouring a dangling doughnut. No cheating!

We’ve got lots more ideas for a spooky Halloween celebration. Try these spooky treats, haunted places, ghostly outings, and Texas-themed family costumes. And stay safe out there!
