Experience Texas

Whether you’re a rootin’ tootin’ tourist or a ninth-generation Texan, slip on your boots, saddle up and hit the road for some truly Texas cowboy activities this fall.

Experience Texas like never before with these seven statewide events:

  • Chisholm Chuck Wagon Wild West Dinner & Cowboy Show In Georgetown, you can experience the food and festivities of the Wild West with a barbecue dinner with home-cooked sides complemented by cowboy poetry and range songs performed by R.G. Rawlins.
  • Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering & Western Swing Festival (Oct. 24–26) Although this event comes but once a year, this weekend-long event in Fort Worth is plenty of time to experience the true cowboy culture — from Western swing dancing and rodeos to wagon rides and fiddle contests.
  • Cowgirls & Cowboys In the West Palo Duro Canyon in Amarillo sets the scene for a picturesque day on the ranch. Kick-start your morning with breakfast on the range followed by a horseback ride across the plains.
  • Enchanted Springs Ranch — Go back in time to the 1800s where Pistol Packin’ Paula and Professor Thaddeus J. Schmidlap are just a few of the characters you may run into along this outdoor adventure in Boerne.
  • Texas Historical Shootist Society — Ever wanted to be a stunt actor in a Western film? Then the THSS in Columbus is the place for you. See if you can handle the challenge on their 1800s-themed range.
  • Bandera Gunfight — Welcome to the cowboy capital of the world, where silver slinging gun fighters duel every weekend at high noon and 2 p.m.
  • TPW Campfire Gatherings — Across the state the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department hosts campfire gatherings featuring cowboy poetry and stories over a roaring campfire.
