How to Throw a Texas-Themed Party

By Staci Parks 3.4.19

What better way to throw a party than with friends, family, neighbors, and loved ones — and just a hint of Texas?

Before you ice down the Yeti with Dr Pepper and Topo Chico, consider all your Texas-themed party details. You’ll want a few party games and icebreakers on hand. These accents are the defining touch to any party, whether you’re welcoming new Texas transplants or planning an unforgettable birthday celebration for your child.

Celebrate Your Little Cowboy

Make Wild West party games out of traditional pastimes with a few small modifications.

  • Lasso Toss: Forget the piñata! Treat your partygoers to a Texas-themed party game using a hula hoop and a stick horse staked into the ground.
  • Pin the Badge on the Sheriff: Instead of Pin the Tail on the Donkey, mix it up a little. Pin the Boot on the Cowboy works, too.
  • Lone Star sweets: Of course, the main attraction should be a sweet treat after an afternoon of games. Win over little hearts with this Texas sheet cake recipe.

Welcome Honorary Texans

Show guests the true meaning of the words, “You’re not from Texas, but Texas wants you anyway!” Welcome them in style with these Texas classics.

See Off Friends on Happy Trails

If you have friends or family who must leave our great state, send them off in style.

  • Multiple personalities: Ask guests to dress up as their favorite Texas-born celebrity for a costume contest. (That’s one way to get Willie Nelson to come to your party!) Offer an incentive in the form of Texas-themed party prizes.
  • Taste of home: Give them a taste of all the things they’ll miss about the Lone Star State with local fare such as barbecue and pecan pie. This could be the ideal audience for your foray into cooking with Dr Pepper. If you’re feeling extra generous, you can even share your grandmother’s beloved chili recipe.
