Where to Go Mudding in Texas
Texas was founded by frontiersmen who trod muddy paths, forged rivers, climbed mountains, and tested their mettle simply to get home for dinner on time. Perhaps we still crave the challenge of a journey in which getting from Point A to Point B demands a little more grit and guts than the casual run to the grocery store. Or maybe it’s just fun to grab the wheel of a truck and steer it straight into a pit of mud. We call that mudding in Texas.
Mudding in Texas means different things to different people. It could be an exploration of a backwoods trail that recent rains have turned into a slick splattering of sticky muck. Or it could be a formal competition in which tricked-out trucks go head-to-head through an impossible-to-cross pool of goo. Regardless of what mudding means to you, Texas is a mudder’s paradise. Northwest OHV Park, Bridgeport
The city of Bridgeport opened this 300-acre off-road site in 2007, allowing ATVs, motorcycles, jeeps, four-wheel-drive trucks, and other rugged vehicles the opportunity to explore a wide variety of backwoods trails. The trails range in difficulty and length. If you want to get into some serious mud, head out after recent rains.

Creekside Offroad Ranch, Splendora
Creekside offers a variety of terrains, including challenging trails, hills, sand, and, of course, plenty of mud. There are also a few swimming holes around the site, so after you work up a sweat conquering the mud pits and slippery paths, you can jump in to cool off. The site also offers RV hookups and primitive campsites.

River Run ATV Park, Jacksonville
The ranch offers 2,000 acres of private land to explore on four wheels, including trails for ATVs, UTVs, four-by-four trucks, horses, bicycles, and golf carts. They also provide cabins and spots for camping.
