Stay cool at the Blue Bell Creamery in Brenham

By Emily Farris 8.14.13

Blue Bell Ice Cream has been offering people across the South their delicious product since 1907, but it all started in Texas.

The original Blue Bell Creamery in Brenham, Texas, offers tours of its facility weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday (general admission is $6). Tours are also available in Broken Arrow, Okla., and Sylacauga, Ala. The tour is a family friendly and educational outing that your kids will love.

During the tour

Wearing special hats, visitors are led through the halls of the creamery. A Blue Bell expert guides you along the tour and stops to explain each step in the ice-cream-making process. Your guide will also answer any questions you or your kids may have to make sure every curiosity is satisfied.

After the Tour

The best part of the experience is that after the tour is finished, everyone enjoys a free scoop of ice cream. You even get to pick from Blue Bell’s wide variety of flavors, some of which aren’t even in stores yet. If one scoop isn’t quite enough to satisfy your sweet tooth, additional scoops are available for $1 each.

Once your ice cream has been devoured, you can stop and take pictures with Blue Bell statues and an antique ice cream delivery truck. If you still have time after finishing the tour, visit the Blue Bell Country Store where the ice cream merchandise is plentiful and you can pick up a cool souvenir to commemorate your visit.
