Take Your Four-Legged Friend on a Pet-Friendly Trip

By Chuck Cox 5.21.14

Hitting the highways and byways of the Lone Star State is even better when you bring your four-legged companion along for the ride. And there is certainly no shortage of places that are perfect for pets to enjoy just as much as their humans. Here is a quick look at just a few pet-friendly trip destinations:

Perhaps one of the most pet-friendly places in Texas, our state capital offers beautiful parks and trails to take your “fur child.” Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail, for example, is an absolute haven for pets. Austin is also home to more than 15 off-leash dog parks for your pups to run and frolic with fellow canines.

This hidden gem of Central Texas is loaded with Hill Country attractions, such as Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, nearby Luckenbach, the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, and South Llano River State Park. There are also pet-friendly hotels and restaurant patios, so you can include your dog in relaxing activities, too.

Port Aransas

This coastal city near Corpus Christi is a beautiful place for pets to hang out in the great outdoors. There are also some cool photo opportunities for the taking with your leashed dogs on Port Aransas Beach. Mustang Island State Park also allows leashed animals.

With so many options, you could make taking your dog on a day trip or an overnight stay a regular thing. After all, what could possibly be better than going on a getaway with your best friend?
