Refresh Your Space Using Feng Shui

By Abi Grise Morgan 1.5.23

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice that focuses on the arrangement and orientation of objects in a space to create a sense of balance and harmony. It can be a great way to “redo” a room or space without having to do any major remodeling or replacing of furniture. By making small changes to the layout and decor of a room, you can give it a fresh, new look without breaking the bank.

Here are six interior design tips inspired by feng shui.

1. Be Conscious of Color

One of the key principles of feng shui is the use of color. Different colors have different associations and can affect the energy and atmosphere of a space. For example, red is often associated with passion and energy, while blue is associated with calm and relaxation. By incorporating these colors into your space, you can achieve a desired mood or energy.

2. Provide a Warm Welcome

One simple way to incorporate feng shui into your space is to create a welcoming entryway. This can be as simple as adding a colorful rug or a piece of art to the wall. By creating a warm and welcoming entrance, you can set the tone for the rest of the space and make it feel more inviting.

3. Everything Has Its Place

Another important aspect of feng shui is the placement of furniture and objects. In feng shui, it is believed that the placement of objects can affect the flow of energy, or chi, in a space. To create a sense of balance and harmony, furniture and objects should be placed in a way that allows for a smooth flow of chi. For example, a couch should not be placed directly in front of a door.

4. Decluttering Brings Joy

Clutter can block the flow of chi and create a sense of chaos and disorganization. By getting rid of unnecessary items and organizing what remains, you can create a sense of clarity and openness in a space. Let go of items that no longer bring you joy or serve a purpose. Here’s a room-by-room guide to decluttering.

5. Add Plants

Plants bring a fresh look and, quite literally, fresh air to your space. Replant a few of your favorites from the garden in pots inside the house. When selecting plants, choose one that represents what you’d like to manifest. For example, if you want to foster more love in your life, choose a plant with heart-shaped leaves.

6. Feel Great About Your Space

In many ways, how our homes are organized can reflect the inner workings of our minds. Take care to surround yourself with objects you love that bring positive energy to your life. Feng shui can teach us a lot about improving our lives by keeping our homes functional and pleasant.

It’s never too early to start spring-cleaning while you’re at it!
